What are the best AI agents? (Compare by how they charge)
Ranked lists of AI agents compare products that charge in completely different units: a flat seat, a per-step task, a pool of credits. The same job can cost $20 a month on one and several hundred on another, so the question worth answering first is how many times a month your work actually runs.
The three things ranked lists mix together
Every "top 10 AI agents" list puts three different products in one table, and each one charges in a different unit. That is why the lists disagree with each other and why the cheapest name on the page is often the most expensive choice.

When a per-run plan wins
Per-run pricing only looks cheap at low volume. Microsoft's own worked example for a support agent handling 900 customers a day lands at 7,200 credits a day. Go past 125% of the credits bought up front and Copilot Studio switches the agent off.
How to choose
Count how many times the job actually happens in a month before reading any ranking: 20 times, 500 times, 20,000 times. Under roughly 100 runs a month, a seat plan on a general assistant wins on price and on setup time. Above that, ask the vendor how many of its units one run of your job burns, and ask what happens on the day you go over.
