Fable 5 stopped being included in Pro plans on July 20, 2026. Anthropic softened the landing with a one-time $100 usage credit for eligible Pro and Team Standard accounts.
That credit is easy to misunderstand and even easier to burn through by accident. It is not a plan upgrade, it does not sit where most people look for it, and at Fable 5 rates it disappears fast. We cover how to switch it on, how far it stretches, and how to spend it well in this article.

Who Gets the Credit
Anthropic's help center is specific about eligibility, and the boundaries matter more than the headline number.
- Pro plans: Eligible for the one-time credit.
- Team plans, standard seats: Eligible for the one-time credit.
- Seat-based Enterprise, standard seats: Not eligible! These seats can use Fable 5 only if the organization enables usage credits.
- Max plans and premium Team seats: no credit needed. Fable 5 is included in these plans at up to 50% of weekly limits.
Check Anthropic’s dedicated help page for the exact promotion terms, including how credits are claimed and when they expire.

Where the Credit Actually Lives
This is where most people get stuck. Claude has more than one balance, and they do not talk to each other.

Your plan limits are what your subscription includes. They reset every five hours and cover Claude conversations and Claude Code alike. Usage credits are a separate prepaid pool that keeps you working past those limits, billed at standard API rates. Console API credits are a third thing entirely, bought inside Claude Console for developer billing, and they expire one year from purchase.
The $100 lands in usage credits. If you go looking for it in Claude Console, you will not find it, and if you buy Console credits by mistake, they will not help you here.
How to Claim the Credits
The whole process happens on one settings page and takes about 2 minutes. When you’d open your account eligible for the credits, the following popup would show up:

Now that claimed the free credits, you need to enable usage credits in the settings:
- Navigate to Settings > Usage in your Claude account. If you subscribed through the iOS or Android app, you must do this on the web version. Credits cannot be enabled from the mobile apps at all.

- Find the Usage credits section and click Enable.

- (optional) Set up a payment method if you have not already. Anthropic asks for this before credits become active, even when you are spending promotional balance first.

Viola! You have $100 in credits. Use them wisely.

Once enabled, the usage dashboard separates plan usage from credit consumption, so you can watch the $100 draw down in real time. As soon as you exhaust the daily usage, you get a notification that your credits will be used now.

This ends up being the case till the usage limits gets reset, or the credits expire.
Note: You can use these credits for using all the Claude models, not only Fable 5. In case of fable 5, all the usage would be done using the credits (since it isn’t available normally).
How Far $100 Actually Goes
Fable 5 bills at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, the highest rate Anthropic lists for a generally available model. Abstract numbers rarely change behaviour, so here is the credit converted into work.
| Task shape | Tokens in / out | Cost per run | Runs on $100 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short chat turn | 20k / 2k | $0.30 | About 333 |
| Document analysis | 150k / 8k | $1.90 | About 52 |
| Code review pass | 100k / 15k | $1.75 | About 57 |
| Deep planning pass | 200k / 40k | $4.00 | About 25 |
| Long agent run | 500k / 100k | $10.00 | About 10 |
The spread is the real lesson. The same credit covers ten long agent runs or several hundred short conversational turns. Output tokens carry five times the weight of input tokens, so verbose responses cost far more than large context windows..
I would advise against using credits on Fable 5. This is because the model hogs credits for any task. It would be much wiser to utilize these credits on the economical Opus and Sonnet models.
Where to Spend It, and Where Not To
A one-time credit rewards deliberate use. Anthropic's own guidance is blunt about this: use Haiku or the latest Sonnet for most tasks, since they perform well at far lower token costs.

Fable 5 earns its rate on the left column and wastes it on the right.
Spend Fable 5 credits where the model’s extra capability actually matters:
- Use Fable 5 for: whole-repo reasoning, genuine long-document synthesis, difficult debugging, and high-stakes one-shot work.
- Use Sonnet or Haiku for: drafting, summarising, reformatting, routine coding, and exploratory chat.
To make the balance last, keep conversations focused, store reusable files in project knowledge, and use your included five-hour usage before dipping into credits.
Automating the handoff
For teams, a simple router can send complex requests to Fable 5 and routine work to cheaper models, with a fallback when credits run out. An orchestration platform like Oasis can make those routing rules easier to update as pricing and model limits change.
Conclusion
The $100 is a transition cushion, not a windfall. It covers about twenty-five serious planning passes, and it lands in a balance most people have never opened.
Enable it at Settings > Usage, cap your monthly spend on the same visit, and route everything except genuinely hard work to a cheaper model. Then use what the credit teaches you about your own consumption to decide whether Max is worth it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to claim the $100 credit or is it automatic?
Anthropic runs a dedicated help center page for the one-time credits promotion, and that page carries the current eligibility and redemption terms. Check your balance at Settings > Usage first. If it has not appeared and you believe you qualify, that page is where to look before contacting support.
Can I redeem the credit on my phone?
No. If you subscribed through the iOS or Android app, usage credits can only be enabled and purchased on the Claude web app. This catches out a lot of mobile subscribers.
Does the credit expire?
Anthropic's promotion page carries the terms for this specific credit, so check there. Note that Console API credits are a different product and expire one year from purchase, which is a common source of confusion.
What happens when the $100 runs out?
Fable 5 requests bill against your prepaid usage credit balance at standard API rates. If that balance is empty and auto-reload is off, you can switch to another Claude model and keep working inside your plan's included limits.
